Advancing Health Care Discovery
The Program for the Aging Century supports research to transform health care through breakthroughs that allow physicians to tailor care to each patient. The Program integrates ground breaking innovative collaborations and interventions at UCSF that address the major epidemics of aging — including cognitive and functional decline, and patient and caregiver suffering — to improve the care of frail elders when they are most vulnerable. A specific priority of the Program for the Aging Century is to support innovative discoveries among collaborators from different disciplines and among patient populations that have traditionally received less attention.

Highlighted Projects:
The Program supports advanced geriatric research fellows to do innovative research and critical discovery related to improving the care for older adults. The following senior fellows are committed to improving policy-relevant care of medically vulnerable elders through discovery:
- Rebecca Brown, MD, MPH — Examining health, disability and social service needs of homeless older adults
- John Cagle, PhD, MSW — Reducing barriers to effective pain management in the Hospice setting
- Meredith Greene, MD — Understanding and optimizing the care of older adults living with HIV or AIDS
- John Newman, MD, PhD — Exploring serious issues about copyright laws and their affects on medicine
